We are WILK-TEC: Water is Life Kenya - Technical Engineering Committee

Mission
Our mission is to leverage the expertise of dedicated professionals to design, develop, and implement sustainable water projects in Kenya. Committed to fostering positive transformation, we strive to improve access to clean water sources, enhance sanitation practices, and uplift local communities by combining technical innovation, cultural sensitivity, and collaborative partnerships.

Our Work
In partnership with the Water is Life Kenya staff, our group of volunteers works on projects that bring clean water to communities in southern Kenya. Our team is experienced in the design and implementation of rainwater catchment systems after successfully installing systems at Imurtot Primary school with over 25,000 gallons of drinking water storage across four buildings of variable size. As part of our project work, we will assess the needs of various community centers, including schools and health clinics, without a potable water source and consider alternatives to provide clean water sources. Our focus will initially be on systems where a rainwater catchment system were installed but have fallen into disrepair and required us to retrofit, upgrade, repair, and expand the existing system as needed.

Current Project
This September, Emily. Doug, Weldon, and Ryan. engineers from our very own WILK-TEC (Technical Engineering Committee), made the trip to Kenya. This trip focused on Phase 2 of the Inchakita Primary Rainwater Harvesting System. A new building was outfitted with WILK-TEC's custom-designed first-flush system, which keeps dirt and sand out while still capturing seasonal rainfall Weldon, also known as "Baba Ryan," wrote about this first trip he took to Kenya!

Get Involved
WILK-TEC is always looking for new members and volunteers. We are not just an engineering organization, there are a lot of opportunities for non-engineering experience like health, education, graphic design, language, business, and many other backgrounds. We also have plenty of opportunities to support both the local and international communities.
